About Gorumara NP

Gorumara National Park is situated on the bank of rivers Murti and Raidak in the terai region of Dooars on the foothills of Eastern Himalayas. Gorumara is famous for its Asiatic one horned Rhino, Asian Elephants, Bisons, Peacocks. This was a reserve forest since 1895. In the year 1949, the park was declared as Wildlife Sanctuary for its breeding population of one horned Indian Rhinoceros. This is a perfect place for wildlife enthusiasts as one can spot large number of animals, birds, insects and diversified flora and fauna at this place.
The vegetation of Gorumara can be classified into four main types: Moist Deciduous and Dry Deciduous forests, Semi-evergreen forest, Riverine Forest and Savannah Forest. Nearly 326 species of plants have been identified, including 158 species of trees and 32 grasses. The core area of the Park contains dense mixed forest with thick undergrowth and is mainly composed of tall trees such as Shorea robusta, Tectona grandis, Bombax ceiba, Amoora wallichi, Dalbergia sissoo, Sterculia villosa and Ficus bengalensis. An interesting grass species  is Citronella, which adds the fragrance of citrus fruit to the air, wherever it occurs in the Park.

  •  By Air : The nearest airport to Gorumara National Park is Bagdogra Airport, which is located around 80 km away from the park. From the airport, you can hire a taxi or take a bus to reach the park.
  •  By Rail : The nearest railway station to Gorumara National Park is New Mal Junction, which is located around 20 km away from the park. From the station, you can hire a taxi or take a bus to reach the park.
  •  By Road : Gorumara National Park is well-connected by road to major cities in West Bengal. You can take a bus or hire a taxi from Siliguri, which is around 80 km away from the park.
 

Best timeTo visit in Gorumara NP

Gorumara National Park is open from October to June every year. The national park remains closed from June 15 to September 15, owing to monsoon and animal breeding season. The best time to visit Gorumara National Park in West Bengal is from November to March, when the weather is clear and wildlife is visible.
